Wirral Holistic Care Services offers a wide range of supportive therapies including acupuncture, counselling, various relaxation techniques and nutritional awareness.

One of the cornerstones of Wirral Holistic Care Services is that we are a patient-directed organisation and believe that all our patients should be involved in deciding which of our treatments will work for them.

All therapies available are carried out by experienced practitioners and for the mostpart are non-invasive, mainly involving touch or the gentle manipulation of muscles, soft tissue areas and various points on the body.

Supportive therapies aren’t there to cure your cancer, but they can be used alongside conventional medical treatment that has been prescribed by your doctor. They can help you to feel better and cope better with your cancer and the symptoms caused by side effects of your treatment and thus, may improve your quality of life.

Many supportive therapies concentrate on boosting relaxation and reducing stress which can help to calm your emotions, relieve anxiety, and increase your general sense of health and well being.

More and more health professionals are very supportive of people with cancer using supportive therapies because they can see that the therapies help people to cope better with the cancer and its treatment. For example, there is evidence of improved quality of life following mindfulness based stress reduction, and reduced chemotherapy related nausea in people who have acupuncture.

Another reason people may use supportive therapies is because they get a lot of comfort and satisfaction from the touch, talk and time that the therapist usually offers. A skilled and caring counsellor or aromatherapist has the time to make you feel cared for so a good therapist can often play a very supportive role during cancer treatment and recovery.

Many people also say that supportive therapies allow them to take a more active role in their treatment and recovery in partnership with their therapist and help them to feel more in control of their feelings and emotions.
